The Monkey King

Chapter 634: The Confusion of Purdue

Outside the stone gate, Monkey and Subhuti, two masters and disciples, one holding a golden cudgel and the other holding a whisk, looked at each other intentionally or unintentionally without saying a word. The atmosphere was extremely weird. The rest of the people watched carefully.

Inside the stone gate, there was silence.

Nuwa's frown deepened, and for a long time, she sighed softly: "About 'water'... I have heard another person compare his way to water before. Unfortunately, in the end, But...that’s all.”

"Laojun?"

Nuwa nodded slightly. He seemed to be recalling some past events, and there was an indescribable helplessness in his expression.

Xuanzang sighed lightly: "What the empress must have said must be 'the best is as good as water'."

"It seems that you have also dabbled in Taoist classics."

"The poor monk is also a person who is eager for success. All living beings are suffering. If possible, the poor monk would not want to wait for a moment. The 'Path of Universal Deliverance' benefits all living beings, and one should not stick to sects." Xuanzang said with a helpless chuckle: "That day , there are also some Taoist books in the Sutra Collection Pavilion of Jinshan Temple. The poor monk had no way to find the Dharma, so he read them all. I was hoping that if Buddhism had no solution, he could find some traces from the Taoist Dharma..."

"Then you found it?"

Xuanzang slowly shook his head: "Buddhism and Taoism are the same, so why not? 'The best good is like water, water is good for all things without fighting, and it is what everyone hates.' In fact, the empress was wrong, 'The best good is like water', Laojun is true He can do it. If he doesn't do it, how can he achieve 'inaction'? It's just that this 'water' is not that 'water'."

"the difference?"

"What Laojun said. The water that is 'the best is like water' is the water that moisturizes all things. The water flows to the lower places. Those who are willing to take the bait will take the bait, and those who refuse should not force it. In the final analysis, it is 'inaction', which is a 'moistening' Character."

Nuwa listened quietly.

Xuanzang paused slightly and then said: "The water the poor monk mentioned does not mean 'moist', but 'melt'. It is true that those who are willing will take the bait, but those who are unwilling will really let it sink." Sea of suffering. Turn a blind eye?"

"so?"

"So. The poor monk believes that the way to universal salvation is not to sit on the Buddha's throne and wait for all living beings to come to pray. It is not that the water flows to a lower place and those who wish to take the bait. But..."

At this point, Xuanzang said no more. He just pursed his lips slightly.

He looked at Nuwa quietly.

Slowly, Nuwa opened her eyes wide, stared at Xuanzang in astonishment, and took a deep breath.

In the dark cave, a few candlelights swayed slightly, and the dim red light shone on the faces of the two people, giving them a refreshing feeling.

After a moment, Nuwa calmed down a little, narrowed her eyes and sighed: "This method is wonderful. This method is proved. It is really a great blessing for the Three Realms."

Xuanzang withdrew his gaze and stood quietly. The expression on his face was like the surface of a lake blown by the breeze, slightly rippled, but exceptionally peaceful and tranquil.

After a long time, Nuwa opened her eyes and sighed softly: "After you said this, I suddenly felt that the Buddhism and Taoism were exactly the same. They both stopped before taking the last step... No wonder Yes. That day, it was Sakyamuni who was enlightened by Laojun, but I didn’t expect that he would go even worse. It’s just that I was too gullible that day.”

After a moment of silence, Nuwa asked softly: "How to prove this method of saving people, do you have a clue now?"

"Yes. It's just that there are too many clues, and the poor monk is also at a loss."

"Can you tell me what clues you have? Maybe, I have lived for tens of thousands of years and can give you some suggestions."

Xuanzang smiled politely and said, "I'm afraid, it's difficult."

Nuwa raised her hand slightly, signaling Xuanzang to continue.

After bowing to Nuwa again, Xuanzang said softly: "The poor monk went westward. He said he was going westward to obtain Buddhist scriptures, but in fact he was going westward to debate the Dharma. His purpose was nothing more than to attain enlightenment and to walk a path that no one before him had ever taken. .”

Having said this, Xuanzang smiled helplessly and said: "To be honest with you, the empress, even the poor monk himself doesn't know whether he can finally achieve enlightenment. As the empress said, both Buddhism and Taoism are based on He stopped before the last step... One step forward is an abyss. In fact, such results are all due to the practice methods of the two schools. If you go against the trend, you will inevitably be contaminated with cause and effect, which will only increase the knot in your mind and will not be beneficial to your practice. If you are a Taoist, That’s all, at most it’s hard to make any progress in cultivation. If you are a Buddhist and break the Buddha’s mind, it’s not surprising to escape into reincarnation. But even if one step forward is an abyss, someone has to try to go, right?”

Nuwa stared at Xuanzang quietly, her eyes slowly narrowed into a slit.

"The poor monk was careful and enlightened at every step along the way. Since all living beings are suffering, why not understand their suffering and help them escape from the sea of suffering?" Xuanzang shook his sleeves, pacing back and forth in the cave, and began to explain these things. His thoughts along the way were narrated: "In Guanyin Monastery, the poor monk met Elder Jinchi. Because of his 'greed', he confused his original mind and missed the true meaning of Buddhism. The poor monk followed the good instructions and finally achieved good results."

"In Gaolaozhuang, the poor monk met Marshal Tianpeng. He was trapped in love and could not be freed for a thousand years. As the saying goes, monks do not lie... But the poor monk told a lie there. Although he did not get any good results, in the end It is a way out of the sea of suffering, which can be regarded as an explanation."

"This is a good situation. From a rough look, from the commander in chief of heaven to the mortals, the suffering of all living beings can be solved. But when you think about it carefully, you are shocked. There are so many living beings in the three realms. If you need such a rescue every time, you can escape from the sea of suffering. ...After all, a poor monk is no more than an ordinary person, and he will die one day. At that time, who will continue the great cause of universal enlightenment?"

After saying this, Xuanzang raised his head slightly, with a trace of helplessness in his eyes, and his thoughts wandered among the memories.

"From then on, the poor monk began to re-plan his way to the west. Mortal life is limited, and the road to enlightenment is only a few decades away for the poor monk. Moreover, after all, the poor monk has a great sage along the way. Only by guarding can you turn danger into good fortune. What if the people who come after you don't have it? Therefore, for the poor monk, the most important thing is not who can be saved and who cannot be saved, but to find a way for those who come after him. A practical way. In the name of alms, the poor monk writes letters to the people and treats the people's diseases, all in order to find this way. 'As a monk, he begs for food from ordinary people to support himself', but at the same time he lives in the world and is self-reliant. .Although it is not easy, if the newcomers can follow the poor monk's method, it will not be difficult. However, this is just the beginning..."

"In Wuji Country, the Curtained Heavenly General wanted to benefit the people, but in the end, he ended up with a ruined reputation. If the Great Sage hadn't come to help, I'm afraid... the consequences would be unimaginable. At this time, new confusion has arisen."

"Heishui River. Mao Jie did dangerous things to save his father. The great sage was angry and tortured him in every possible way, but the poor monk only watched from the side. At this time, the choice faced by the poor monk was between great good and small good. If you do small good, If you are kind to Miao Jie, it will be difficult for you to go west. But if you abandon small kindness and decide to go west, can you expect great kindness?" He looked at his own shadow on the cave wall. For a long time, Xuanzang slowly shook his head and sighed helplessly: "Without small kindness, the great kindness will only be covered by a thin veil. In the end, it will be in vain."

"This matter was originally a dead end. Xuanzang thought about it all night, and finally realized it. The snake and the farmer each have their own positions, and there is no right or wrong. Since there is no solution, why not open your mind and influence all living beings? It seems like a dead end. .With a kind heart, maybe we can still get a chance of survival."

"If we can influence all living beings and make them walk with Xuanzang in the method of universal salvation, then the method of universal salvation will surely be achieved!" At this point, the excited look on Xuanzang's face suddenly dissipated and replaced with A hint of worry. He said softly: "However, that is not the case. The poor monk thought too simply."

"In the Chechi Kingdom, a poor monk wanted to rescue the monks with good intentions, but in the end, he only put the monks in danger and suffered many casualties... Although the great sage returned in time, the monks were saved. The final result is also great. But , others may not know it, but how can a poor monk not see through it? In the final analysis, it is just whitewashing the peace. Good flowers can also bear evil fruits... If so, can you still influence all living beings if you open your mind? Not to mention crossing. The poor monks, even the monks from the Chechi Kingdom, can’t cross over the sentient beings, so how can they cross over the sentient beings?”

"If we rely on the power of the Great Sage to achieve universal salvation, in the end, the universal salvation will be nothing more than a flash in the pan. It cannot be regarded as any kind of Dharma or Tao, let alone the Dao."

"The poor monk has doubted it more than once. If all sentient beings are born with suffering and evil... If that's the case, maybe everything the poor monk does is in vain. Fortunately, today I have the empress to clarify my doubts. However, how to achieve enlightenment is just like What the poor monk just said is still an unsolved problem. The only thing the poor monk can do now is to believe. Other than that, there is no other way."

In an instant, the entire stone room fell silent.

The two looked at each other quietly, and Nuwa opened her eyes slightly.

After a while, Xuanzang seemed to wake up. He quickly calmed down, clasped his hands together, and bowed in salute: "I have lost my temper, please forgive me."

"Is this what you mean by not thinking everything through?"

Xuanzang nodded.

"Then when you set out to the west, you didn't know anything and relied on courage and determination?"

Xuanzang lowered his head slightly, clasped his hands, and stared at the empty ground without saying a word.

"I can't help it." Nuwa smiled and made her final comment.

Xuanzang's clasped hands tightened slightly.

"This is 'no pain for asking'." Nuwa pursed her lips and looked at Xuanzang with eyes as gentle as a mother's. She chuckled and said: "You yourself have fallen into a sea of suffering and are no longer detached."

Xuanzang stood quietly, closing his eyes tightly and saying nothing.

"Not bad." Nuwa stood up slowly while holding on to the armrest, and sighed: "Wonderful thinking, well said, and this sea of suffering is just right. I understand."

Xuanzang opened his eyes and looked at Nuwa with some confusion.

The thick stone door slowly opened.

Red firelight shone through the door. The monkey unconsciously clenched the golden hoop, but Subhuti laughed.

Inside the stone gate, Nuwa stood quietly, and Xuanzang stood not far behind her.

"Have you finished talking?" Seeing that Xuanzang was safe and sound, the monkey felt a little calmer.

Before leaving the house, Nuwa turned to Xuanzang and said, "Did you reach the Daughter's Kingdom on your westward journey?"

After a pause, she continued: "Do you need me to give you a ride back to the Daughter's Kingdom so that you can continue your original itinerary?" (To be continued ~^~)
