The Monkey King

Chapter 498: Lecture

Early the next morning, before dawn, Xuanzang opened the door and saw Jin Chi guarding the door with all the elders in the monastery. He couldn't help but feel a little stunned.

Xiao Bailong, Black Bear Jing, and Lu Liuguai couldn't help but crane their heads to watch.

Jin Chi clasped his hands together and bowed with a dry smile: "Master Xuanzang, I have offended you a lot in the past two days, please forgive me."

"What is Master Jinchi referring to?" Xuanzang asked softly.

"this……"

All the elders present couldn't help laughing. Jinchi clasped his hands together and saluted again, saying: "Master Xuanzang is really magnanimous, and we admire you. I came here today in the hope that Master Xuanzang can open an altar in this Zen courtyard. Lecture.”

"Opening a forum to give lectures?"

"Yes." Jin Chi nodded and said, "What Master Xuanzang said yesterday was that the poor monk was too stupid to understand it on the spot. He didn't realize it until last night. Therefore, he discussed with the disciples in the Zen Academy and decided to invite Master Xuanzang to be the leader of the Zen Academy. He lectures on the sutras, and I also ask Master Xuanzang not to refuse."

Xuanzang couldn't help but be slightly startled, his eyes quietly drifting towards the monkey standing not far behind Jinchi.

"What a great reversal. Manjusri is no longer in the monastery. Judging from the situation, they are sincere in asking you to lecture this time." The monkey's voice rang in Xuanzang's mind.

After a moment of hesitation, Xuanzang clasped his hands together, bowed with a smile on his face and said: "The poor monk will do his best for the master Jinchi."

After saying this, all the elders suddenly smiled.

Jin Chi also breathed a sigh of relief. He bowed and said, "The poor monk has thanked Master Xuanzang on behalf of the entire academy. Yesterday, all the poor monks asked questions, and Master Xuanzang answered them. Today, the poor monk would like to ask Master Xuanzang to teach you the sutra you want to preach. Is that okay?"

Xuanzang raised his head slightly and thought for a while. He said, "Why don't we just talk about 'Buddha'?"

Hearing this, all the elders were shocked and looked at each other in confusion.

Although it had already been discussed before coming here, Xuanzang would decide on the topic for today’s lecture. But I really didn’t expect Xuanzang to choose such a topic.

Jin Chi hesitated for a moment. He asked softly: "How can this...Buddha be considered?"

Xuanzang asked: "Regardless of Buddha, if you don't know what a Buddha is, how can you become a Buddha?"

Gritting his teeth, Jinchi cupped his hands and said, "In that case, there is Master Lao Xuanzang."

After giving the order, not long after, everyone in the Zen Yuan was summoned.

In the main hall. Xuanzang talked in detail, explaining the profound things in simple terms, and added new insights to the Buddhist allusions that were already familiar to them. A sentence of "Buddha" in Xuanzang's mouth can be transformed into a chapter as magnificent as a world, with countless perspectives and attracting the admiration of countless disciples.

Different from ordinary eminent monks giving lectures, Xuanzang not only gave his own answers, but also raised his own questions, which also contained many of Xuanzang's own expectations, which is thought-provoking.

Want to become a Buddha. But he is not limited to becoming a Buddha.

This lecture lasted from the quarter of the hour to the third quarter of the hour, which lasted for more than six hours.

During this period, some elders were afraid that Xuanzang would not be able to continue teaching, so they suggested taking a break. Xuanzang said, "As long as there is one person who is really willing to listen to Xuanzang, Xuanzang will continue to talk."

All the disciples were also attentive. Reluctant to leave the table.

This scene made Jin Chi a little crazy.

He had lectured countless times in his life, but there had never been a scene like this where all his disciples could not sleep or eat, just because they didn't want to miss Xuanzang's words, which made them regret it for the rest of their lives.

For a whole day, under the guidance of Xuanzang, they traveled around the world of Buddha that they had always longed for but were difficult to touch.

At dusk, Jinchi announced the end of the lecture, but there were still many disciples who were unwilling to leave, and several disciples even asked on the spot to go west with Xuanzang.

During the delay, the sky was filled with stars.

After finally dismissing the disciples in the courtyard, seeing no one around, Jinchi slowly came to Xuanzang, knelt on his knees, and kowtowed.

Xuanzang was startled and quickly reached out to help him, saying, "Why did Master Jinchi perform such a great gift?"

Na Jinchi sighed softly: "The poor monk has practiced Buddhism for more than two hundred years. Although he has become famous far and wide, he has never been able to touch the original intention of the Buddha. It is even more impossible to talk about becoming a Buddha. Everyone said that the poor monk can prolong his life. It is the poor monk who has a deep understanding of the Buddhist scriptures and received the grace of the Buddha. Only the poor monk knows in his heart that the long life of the poor monk is only due to the merits of the flat peach. Today, after listening to the Master's lecture, the poor monk knows that there are people outside the world and there is a sky outside. If it were not for the flat peach, the poor monk would I'm afraid he is no different from the disciples in this courtyard."

After saying that, he took a step back, prostrated to the ground again, and said loudly: "I beg Master Xuanzang to accept Jinchi as his disciple. Jinchi is willing to follow the master to the west and lead the master's horse to beg for alms. If the master disagrees, Jinchi will kneel down." Sorry."

"this……"

Xuanzang couldn't help but hesitate. The monkey's laughter immediately sounded in his mind: "Hey, there is one more person, what should I do?"

Xuanzang took a deep breath, once again leaned over to support Jinchi, and said softly: "Master Jinchi said it carefully, Xuanzang's journey to the west was not to become a Buddha, but to achieve universal salvation. If you go westward with Xuanzang, you will not be able to become a Buddha. . If you want to become a Buddha, you can do it anywhere."

"But...Jinchi has been cultivating in this Zen monastery for more than two hundred years, but he still doesn't understand the true meaning of Buddhism. If he can follow the master and get the master's guidance, he will be able to enlightenment soon."

"The reason why Master Jinchi cannot become a Buddha is because he cannot see through it and cannot let it go. If he can let go of worldly things, becoming a Buddha is only one step away."

"But this step is as difficult as climbing to the sky. Please have mercy on the Master and point out a clear path for Jinchi." At this point, Jinchi was already in tears.

Xuanzang was silent for a moment and said softly: "Becoming a Buddha is extraordinary. You must have sudden enlightenment yourself. Without sudden enlightenment, others will not be able to help even if they are extremely powerful. A poor monk cannot help the master of Jinchi to become a Buddha. .”

"If this is the case, wouldn't it mean that this poor monk has no hope in this life?"

Taking a deep breath, Xuanzang said: "The poor monk cannot help Master Jinchi become a Buddha, but he can give Master Jinchi a piece of advice."

Hearing this, Jinchi suddenly became energetic and said quickly: "Please ask the mage to give you some advice!"

"The way to become a Buddha. You can first realize it and then practice it, or you can first practice the Buddhist path and then realize it. In this case, please ask Master Jinchi to demolish the ten golden Buddhas in this courtyard."

"Demolished...demolished?" Master Jinchi was suddenly shocked.

"Tear it down." Xuanzang said calmly: "After demolishing it, turn it into silver coins. In a disaster year, buy some rice and give it to the victims. The same is true for the Golden Buddha, and the same is true for other things."

"This..." Jin Chi's face couldn't help but trembled three times.

"Respecting the Buddha is just idle talk. The so-called 'begging for food from the common people to support one's body' is the way of asceticism. It is an act of practicing one's mind. Although gold and silver are good, they are just common things. If the practice is not painful, how can one escape from the sea of suffering? How can one become a Buddha just by thinking hard in the courtyard?"

Jin Chi stared at Xuanzang blankly, his eyes blinking.

After a long time, he calmed down, gritted his teeth and kowtowed: "Tomorrow, the poor monk will instruct his disciples to dismantle all ten golden Buddhas as the Master said!"

late at night. Jinchi personally sent Xuanzang back to his residence and said goodbye respectfully before returning.

Pushing open the courtyard door, Xuanzang saw the monkey leaning crookedly on the stone chair in the courtyard, sipping tea.

"Is this considered a successful crossing?" the monkey asked softly.

Xuanzang shook his head and said, "For now, we don't know."

With a long sigh, the monkey poured a cup of tea for Xuanzang, pushed it over, and said leisurely: "You can really watch the moonlight when the clouds clear, but that old guy is not a good thing, let's see if he is ferried. Still. It’s really a bit unpleasant.”

Xuanzang smiled faintly, walked slowly to the edge of the stone table and sat down, holding the teacup in both hands and tasting it carefully.

"Did you guess that this would happen today when you gave him a lecture yesterday?"

"What if you can guess it, but what if you can't guess it?"

"If you guess it, it means you have foresight. If you can't guess it, it means you are lucky."

Xuanzang smiled lightly again. He sighed slowly: "How about the poor monk telling the great sage a story?"

"explain."

"There was a farmer. One day, a god came to him in a dream and told him that because he had done good deeds and accumulated merit, he would be given ten thousand taels of gold. So the farmer waited at home every day, and even the fields were barren, until he was hungry. He died without seeing the ten thousand taels of gold given by the god. After his death, he met the god in the underworld. So he asked the god why he didn't fulfill his promise. The god said that the promise had been fulfilled long ago, and the gold was buried in the underworld. In his field. The poor farmer has not plowed his land for a single day since the god’s dream. Naturally, he has no way to get it.”

Hearing this, the monkey couldn't help but laugh: "How old a story is this?"

"Has the Great Sage heard this story?"

"I've heard of it. But he's not a farmer, he's a fisherman, something similar."

"Then what conclusion did the Great Sage draw from this?"

The monkey couldn't help but froze, and turned his head to look at Xuanzang.

Just listen to Xuanzang whisper: "The poor monk is the farmer, and saving all sentient beings is ten thousand taels of gold. If the poor monk does nothing, even if there are really ten thousand taels of gold buried in the field, what does it have to do with the poor monk? Therefore, All the poor monk has to do is to work hard every day and do his best."

"Then what if Tanaka doesn't have that gold?"

"Do you still remember what the poor monk said to the Great Sage yesterday?"

"Let nature take its course and don't force anything?"

Xuanzang nodded silently.

"Then... what's going on with the Enlightenment Purdue? Actually, I haven't understood it yet. Please take this opportunity to explain it to me."

"Enlightenment and universal salvation cannot be achieved by one person, but someone must take the first step. Just like the story just now, many people have heard it, but not everyone who has heard it will follow it, and not everyone will do it. Everyone will believe it, because it is just a story. All Xuanzang needs to do is..." At this point, Xuanzang dipped his hand in tea and wrote the word "Xing" on the stone table, saying: "Practice it personally and let them Let’s all see with our own eyes that ‘Ten Thousand Liangs of Gold’.”

The monkey stared at the word "行" quietly for a long time, until the word was completely dry in the wind, and then he whispered softly: "How do you know that there must be 'ten thousand taels of gold' in this field?"

"Because of faith." Xuanzang said.

Early the next morning, Jinchi ordered all the golden Buddhas in the Zen courtyard to be demolished, as he had said to Xuanzang yesterday, leaving no one behind.

The disciples in the entire Zen courtyard were busy, and he himself led the elders in the Zen courtyard to guard the door early.

Seeing Xuanzang and his entourage holding horses and luggage slowly walking out of the courtyard where they lived, Jinchi hurriedly stepped forward to greet him, clasped his hands together, bowed and said, "I benefited a lot from listening to the scriptures yesterday. I thanked everyone in the monastery for this." Master Xuanzang."

Xuanzang also clasped his hands together. Silently returned the gift.

Na Jinchi said again: "I originally wanted to ask Master Xuanzang to stay a little longer, but considering that Master Xuanzang is traveling west to attain enlightenment, it's a long journey. We don't want to delay any more. We just hope that Master Xuanzang will return after attaining enlightenment." . Please remember to stay in this Guanyin Zen Monastery for a few more days. Firstly, I hope that the Master will give lectures and resolve doubts to the disciples in the Zen Monastery. Secondly, we also look forward to the Master’s attainment of Taoism and fruition during this trip.”

Xuanzang smiled faintly, bowed and said, "When I return, please ask Master Jinchi to take care of you."

"Master, please don't say that. The golden pool is in front of the master. He calls himself a disciple. It's not an exaggeration. How can he explain it?"

Surrounded by the monks in the Zen monastery, everyone set out from Guanyin Zen monastery, went down the mountain, and walked westward for three miles. Xuanzang advised Jinchi and others not to send him away again. Everyone wanted to send him, so he traveled another seven miles.

It wasn't until they were ten miles away that Jinchi and his entourage repeatedly told Xuanzang to visit Guanyin Temple again when he returned, then they finally stopped and watched Xuanzang go away.

Along the way, the monkey led the horse and said, "I didn't expect it. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the entire courtyard, and when I left, I was also greeted by the entire courtyard, but the charm was much different this time. That's how the old monk gave me After that, I think about my face at the beginning. It’s really a bit unpleasant.”

Xuanzang rode on the horse and said softly: "Who among all living beings can be free from confusion? Even if he has made mistakes, as long as he can correct them, what's wrong? Besides, Master Jinchi has never made any serious mistakes. Now that he has achieved great enlightenment, let's just talk about him demolishing the Golden Buddha. , the act of donating food to the victims is a meritorious deed. What’s wrong with it?”

"In the past, I usually hit people in the head with a stick if I was unhappy with them."

"So, you are the great sage, and the poor monk is Xuanzang. Each has his own considerations." Xuanzang chuckled softly and said, "On the way west, each takes what he needs."

They looked at each other, and both of them laughed, which made the black bear spirit and the little white dragon confused for a while. On the other hand, Lu Liuguai seemed to understand, but his brows were furrowed tightly, and there was a trace of doubt in Xuanzang's eyes.

In Hezhou, Xiniu, in the Bibotan Dragon Palace, a fish spirit crawled cautiously in front of the nine-headed worm.

The nine-headed insect sat on a stone chair surrounded by coral, frowning tightly, and said softly: "Has Lu Liuguai already met the Great Sage?"

The fish spirit cupped his hands and said, "When I return to the Prince Consort, the news is reported by our secret agents hidden in Lu Liuguai's army. It is absolutely correct."

"How did he know where the Great Sage was?"

"This... little one doesn't know. I only know that it was the news brought back by Miss Ying'er."

"Ying'er?" The Nine-Headed Insect raised its head slightly and sighed lightly, saying, "Is there any other news about the Great Sage?"

"No, the great sage's spiritual consciousness is so amazing that even the fine artist doesn't dare to get close."

Princess Wan Sheng, who was sitting beside her, said softly: "How about you follow Lu Liuguai's example and go see the Great Sage? If he wants to find you, he won't be able to escape even to the ends of the earth."

"Hey." The Nine-Headed Insect shook his head and said, "What should I tell him when I see him? He said that in order to replace my father-in-law's flat peach, I took away most of the Enlightenment Dao monsters under Lu Liuguai, and over the years Secretly restricting their development, have you ever restrained a few demon kings on behalf of Heaven?"

Princess Halloween couldn't help but fell silent.

Reaching out and rubbing his temples, Nine-Headed Insect said softly: "It has been hundreds of years. I really didn't expect that he would come back. If I knew that he would come back... I would also..."

Spreading his hands, Nine-Headed Insect could not continue to speak.

The problem of the longevity of the Halloween Dragon King is the Achilles heel of the Nine-Headed Insect. This is something that is known to all the three worlds. So what if we use the wealth left behind by Huaguo Mountain at that time to create a huge demon kingdom? He can take the mortal world into his pocket, but he is not a monkey and there is no way he can break through the Nantianmen. The powerful ones will not let him do whatever he wants.

If you can't enter Nantianmen, you can't get the peaches, and if you can't get the peaches, you can't extend your life...

Maybe, even if he knew that the monkey would return more than six hundred years later, he would make the same decision as before. For him, this was a dead end from beginning to end.

After being silent for a long time, Princess Wan Sheng said softly: "How about I go see the Great Sage. He also knows about my father. Even if he wants to blame, he shouldn't be too harsh."

"If I let you go, where can I put my face?" The Nine-Headed Insect patted the Halloween Princess's hand, shook his head and sighed: "Let me think about it again. After a few days, I will think about it, and I will go by myself. Please forgive me."

Looking at the Nine-Headed Insect with a sad face, Princess All Saints nodded slightly and said nothing more.

Looking south to Buzhou.

Everyone walked along like this, eating and sleeping in the open. Five days later, I arrived eighty miles away from Guanyin Temple and saw a stone tablet in the weeds beside the mountain road, with the words "Gaolaozhuang" written on it.

The moment he saw the stone tablet, the monkey paused slightly. (To be continued ~^~)
