The Ancient Genes

825 Signs of Trouble

The sun had set down, and darkness had engulfed the sky. The moon and stars unfortunately were not visible as the sky was covered with dark thunder clouds. Lightning flashed across the City of Orca, and heavy rain poured down onto the streets.

It all brought a certain calm and peace to the city, and most people could be seen standing or sitting in the balconies of their house enjoying the peace.

It was a lovely scene, but unseen to the eyes of people, a strange undercurrent had begun to flow in Orca. One which might as well send the whole city to its doom.

…

Oven's House, Capital.

"What's with the weather today?" A guards stood with a thin figure, and smaller figure than average stood near the gate while complaining about the weather. Even though the weather was one which people could enjoy, it was definitely different for him who had to stand out and do his job.

"Why the hell are we even here? As if someone is gonna come in such weather.." The other guard lamented. They had already checked the list of the guests and there wasn't anyone who was going to visit. And, any surprise visit was unlikely to happen at night with such a bad weather.

But, as if someone was waiting for them to say those exact same words.

"Hmmn?"

Suddenly, the guards noticed a shadowy figure approaching them from a distance. His steps were steady, and his cloak slightly drenched. It was hard to tell whether he was mage or not.

But, he seemed to be unfazed by the things around him.

"I am here to meet the Young Lord.."

Before the two guards knew the man was suddenly in front of them, speaking.

The guards scanned the suspicious looking man who had his face covered. Aside from that, even the hoarse voice coming out of his mouth didn't seem to be original. It seemed to be deliberately altered.

"Who are you?" The guard asked as he looked at the man. He obviously wasn't going to let him in just like that.

The man took out a crest of the Oven's House, and passed it to the guard with a flick of his palm. The other guard caught it, and gave it a look to check its authenticity.

He then gave the man a look before politely speaking, "Follow me inside, I will send someone to inform the Young Lord about your request.."

With that, the man was led inside while the thin looking guard gave him a look from behind as the two people left.

Currently, he was left all alone standing there in the rain. But, unlike a few minutes ago, his face was no longer that of someone upset with the rain, instead, he had a smile on his face.

"This weather is the best for events like this, I can't thank it enough…This is a big scoop…I know Little Master will like it.." The guard suddenly smiled as his countenance changed a little, and the aura of a normal person around him was replaced by that of an expert who had witnessed a thousand battles.

"Uhmn.."

Realizing the change, he immediately shifted back and controlled his excitement. To be honest, he was pretty bored all this time. Bahamut had sent him to infiltrate the Ovens and he had done it.

But, to think that they treated outsiders so strictly. It was very difficult to get any authority if you were an outsider. Hence, he decided to take the job of the guard. It was a good way for him to keep an eye on the people as well as to collect information from his fellow guards.

And, during this time, he had indeed found good scoops for Bahamut, but recently life had turned boring. The Ovens House was after all in time of power transition, the Lord had turned into a useless man. James on the other hand had taken control of things, and was slowly handling the house while increasing his authority.

There was not much fun here..

But, after today, things were going to change..

Why?

Well, ordinary people might not be able to tell who the man in the cloak was, but he definitely could. After all, there was a reason why Bahamut had sent him here.

He actually had mutated mana eyes, a category of Variant from the Beastman. And, this ability allowed him to differentiate mana, and he could actually distinguish its type with ease. In simple words, he had the ability to see mana.

And, right now, he had seen that the mana surrounding the cloaked man was more dominant towards the light element, and there was indeed a feeling of purity coming from him.

Looking at the amount of the light mana particles surrounding that man, he could tell that the man was super strong. Definitely above Master Tier.

And, in Orca, if you were to look for a person in such a category, there was only one place to look for.

The Edwinson House…

'This sure makes things more interesting..' He smiled before sending the message to Bahamut.

…

Zen Mansion, Ishtar.

Bahamut was staying in Ishtar and it had been a few days. He should have left the place by now, but things surely went crazy in the middle.

There was some accident on the Competition Committee's side. And, the students had disappeared. A search team was organized and sent to find them. But, only one person was found and that too in severe condition.

It was Arnold Barnes.

As for the rest, no one knew and the search was still going on.

"Hmmm..' Suddenly, a message popped up in front of Bahamut, and it was indeed from Orca. It contained a message about a suspicious guy visiting James, and it seemed that the chances of him being from the Edwinson House were high.

"It's one after another.."

Even Bahamut had to acknowledge the fact that James was bad news. Not only because of his wits, but because of the b*stards luck as well. He had indeed benefited from them. Hell, they even took Werner out of the way for him, and allowed him to gain control of the Ovens without any trouble.

This type of guys were the one Bahamut hated the most..
