The Ancient Genes

Chapter 350 - Resurfacing Memories

Walker House, Capital.

The Walker House was spread over a large territory. It looked like a self-sufficient place. It wasn't a surprise as it was the headquarters of the Walker House. They had a huge number of people in their House along with a dozen or so branch families.

That is what it took to be recognized as a powerful force in the current world. As they travelled deeper into the area, Max could see the structures changing. It was very likely that they had entered the ground of the main family. As Max looked around, a particular mansion caught his eyes.

The majestic place stood apart from the other buildings. There was no doubt about it, that was their destination.

A few minutes later….

The old man carrying Max landed inside the mansion.

The servants at the entrance bowed and a second later, an old man who appeared to be Lisa's grandfather's butler showed up.

"Is she still in the room?" The old man asked as he walked ahead with Max and his butler following behind.

"Yes, there hasn't been any change….."

"I see…" the old man sighed.

"Miss Janet, the granddaughter of Lord Edwinson is here to pay her a visit…." The butler further spoke passing the information.

Lisa's grandfather slightly tilted his head to look at Max. He knew about the situation now and to be honest, he felt it to be very troublesome for Max. If things weren't cleared quickly, Max could become a hateful figure in his family due to the incident with Victor. This might cause him a problem if he wanted to contend for the position of the Lord in the future.

Obviously, Max had no such plans….

Soon, the old man led Max through the stairs and as they approached Lisa's room, Max's ears picked up some noise.

Soon, it was clear what was happening….

Janet stood outside the door and continued to knock it….

"Lisa, open the door….everyone is really worried…."

The lack of response made Janet's worried look to deepen even further. Helplessness seemed to be oozing out of her….it seemed she would be crying any moment now….

"Young Lady's friends had been switching time to come over….but she has yet to come out and see anyone…" the butler spoke as if to explain the situation.

Max released his senses and observed the situation inside and his brows tightened.

'Did something happen?' Max thought. He could feel the depressed and gloomy aura inside. He didn't want to think about it, but Lisa had the crystal heart….this was the one situation he didn't want to see her in….as for whether it had truly affected her or not, Max had to meet and personally find out….

He looked at the old man for permission and he nodded in understanding.

"Excuse me…" Max said as he reached behind Janet.

Janet turned around hearing the voice and her eyes widened. She was shocked at Max's sudden appearance. She couldn't understand why Max was here. But when she saw that there was Lisa's grandfather and another old man behind, she didn't say anything and just stepped aside looking at Max in confusion.

"It's me, Lisa." Max spoke with a calm voice.

But there was still a lack of response.

Max sighed as he took a step back and in front of everyone's dumbfounded gaze broke the door with a kick.

"Bang!"

No one had tried to do that, scared of making the situation worse but only Max knew that things would turn worse if left like this. Besides, it seemed that his voice hadn't reached Lisa. He wanted to talk to her face to face, not with a door in between.

With the door gone, Max walked in. Janet and Lisa's grandfather shortly came back to their senses and followed behind with a worried look.

Inside the room….

It was dark. The curtains were closed, lights switched off. Max could see a person wrapped up in a blanket sitting there with gloominess all around.

There was an awful smell coming from the room which was very obvious from all the food dumped in the corner of the room. There were even signs of her vomiting….

Max walked up to the bed and sat in front of her. But Lisa didn't even look at him. It seemed she hadn't even noticed him.

Her eyes seem to be lacking the usual shine….

Max moved his hands and grabbed her face, turning it towards his own.

"What wrong? I am sorry for being late..…" Max spoke with a serious look. He had promised to help her as long as she followed her and he seemed to have been late here….besides there was something else he couldn't ignore….

The people behind stood there with worry all over their faces.

Especially the old man, his face had turned pale….the trays of food given to Lisa had all come clear which was the only reason he hadn't taken any drastic measure but now…..

Lisa stared at Max but didn't show any sign of response….

Time continued to tick….but Max raised his hand asking everyone to stop and let him handle it.

When it was almost about to hit the 30 minute mark...Max finally spoke as he revolved the Ancient Manual…

"Are you going to defy me?"

The flow energy which had been used as a source during the allegiance seemed to react to those words and stirred Lisa up….her eyes slowly regained their light.

"M-Max…"

It was even lower than a whisper but Max still heard it and nodded his head.

Lisa looked at him and slowly her tears began to slid out of her eyes. The next moment, Lisa jumped into Max's arms surprising him as her loud cries sounded throughout the room.

The old man looked at the scene with worry and a hint of relief at the same time.

Max on the other hand looked at Lisa tightly clutching him failing to grasp the situation. He was hesitating whether to wrap his arms around and comfort her…

''I...don't...want to...hurt...anyone…"

Max could hear those inaudible words among her cries. He looked at her and the hesitation vanished from his eyes and he finally brought his arms around patted her back….there were indeed some burdens which you had to carry on your own...Max could imagine that it must have something to do with her powers….

Max wouldn't blame her for this. Even he himself had been a jerk and cursing his fate in the beginning…in comparison to that, Lisa had been doing much better….

Janet looked at the scene with an odd look. There was no way she could comprehend this situation…

Max slightly turned his head to look at the old man as he spoke, "Can you please, get the room cleaned and get prepared a meal for her?"

Max obviously asked in a respectful way not in the slightest sounding arrogant or mighty.

The old man nodded and looked at his butler who then left the room.

"We shall let them have a moment, young girl." The old man said to Janet before walking out of the room. Janet looked at them but Lisa didn't even seem to have noticed her presence and kept crying in Max's arm.

In the end, Janet left the room as well deciding to wait outside and let her calm down…

Soon, the room was cleaned and a proper meal was served. Even the door was fixed.

Lisa's cries finally seemed to have halted and she separated from Max. Her eyes red and tired. Her complexion didn't look good and she seemed extremely weak.

"Eat first…" Max said as he pointed at the tray but Lisa didn't listen to him. She wanted to speak first. Her face still had that worried look.

Max sighed looking at her and brought the tray forward, "Eat a bit and I will listen…."

Lisa finally ate after Max's words and then she began to speak….

"I think I will hurt someone…."

Max looked at her with a frown as he spoke, "Why do you think so?"

"Recently, I have been seeing strange things….I think it's got to do something with my power. I feel that I have already hurt people in the past.....this....At first, I thought about talking to you, but you went missing and then…."

"So, you shut yourself up?" Max asked as he looked at her as she explained the situation with worry all over her.

Lisa nodded, "You are the only one who knows about it and can stop me…..I didn't want to go on a rampage and hurt anyone….even if my father or grandfather could have stopped me, it would have definitely hurt them to raise their hand on me…"

Max was a bit surprised at how much she had thought about it.

"And why didn't you eat anything?" Max looked at her but she just lowered her head.

"That…..its just….I had this strange dream….I just couldn't even look at food after that…..but it feels a bit better now..."

Max looked at the tray how she had picked out only vegetables and left out any meat dish….

Suddenly, Max had a bad feeling about it…..

"So what are these strange things you are seeing…" Max finally asked and when Lisa finally began to describe the things…..his face turned grim.

It seemed her sealed memories were resurfacing…..it was still at a stage where she hadn't realised the truth though…

'Don't tell me the incident last time has affected the seal on her memories….'

"When did it started?" Max asked.

Lisa suddenly looked down with sadness all over her face.

"When I saw Axel in the hospital?"

"Hmm?" Max's brows rose. He didn't have any idea about it.

"What happened to him? Is he fine now?" Max further asked in worry.

"I don't know…I don't know…" Lisa said as tears fell down her eyes. She remembered Axel's harsh words. Even though she had decided to move on….she still was crying here..

"Did something happen with him?" Max asked, feeling something was wrong. They were technically now in the same boat. So he didn't understand why she wasn't aware of his condition.

"N-No.." Lisa shook her head but it only made it more obvious.

"Tell me…'' Max said with a calm voice.

"Nothing happened…." Lisa said as she turned her head around….

"Didn't I say I would help you? Don't worry, just let it out…even if you don't, I am sure Axel will." Max said with a smile and Lisa finally reacted.

In the end, she decided to tell Max everything that had happened that day….

"Don't take his words seriously, I am sure he didn't mean it…."

"No...he did. I am sure…" Lisa shook her head in deniance.

"Anyway, I have got some work to do...I will be leaving now…" Max said as he got up but Lisa immediately grabbed his arms unconsciously.

Max looked at her as he said, "Don't worry, I am here. You do just what I ask you to. I will take care of the rest. And I will be returning in a while and check your condition properly. Besides, I am sure your friend out there has a lot to talk to you…"

"Friend?" Lisa asked in confusion.

Max smiled as he walked up to the door and pulled it open only to see Janet standing behind. It seemed she was trying to eavesdrop on them or maybe she was just worried.

"Well then take care until then…." Max said as waved his hand and walked out.

Outside…

Max met with her grandfather and told him that she should be fine for now and he would visit them again.

The old man tried to keep Max at the place but he left saying that his friend must be worried and he wanted to meet them in person

Max walked out of the mansion. His eyes had turned calm. He took out his phone and searched for Axel's number before calling him.

He hadn't called them until today because his phone which was in his pocket during the fight had been confiscated at the association and he had only got it now before leaving with the old man.

The call rang before someone finally picked it up..

"Hello, Max!!" It was Lear's voice.

"Where is Axel?"

"Uh...he got discharged today….we are gathered at his dorms...but where were you all this time?"

"I am heading over....don't worry I am fine...lets talk after meeting..."

"Ok, come quick. We can finally have a party now...." Lear said in a cheerful voice. Finally everything was solved.

Max hung up and proceeded to walk away as he muttered with a hint of anger in his voice.

"He has crossed the limit…."

It was time he heard it from the guy himself. Even though he had heard his brother through Lisa's memories. Max still wanted to hear it from him. Depending on his answer, things might become heated up today.
