After sending Heywood and the others away, Qin Shiou continued to go back to plan the construction of the fishing ground, and at the same time called Bill Sage, the account manager of Dick Sea Vegetation Company. Although his main business is marine vegetation, he belongs to agriculture after all. He also knows about gardening.

Knowing that Qin Shiou wanted to develop vineyards, Bill, who had rushed all the way, laughed and waved his hands: "No, no, Qin, this is not appropriate. Most of the vineyards in Canada are concentrated in the south, and Farewell Island is even more so in the south. Southern, but that's not appropriate."

"why?"

"You're right by the sea! Vineyards can't be planted by the sea. The humidity is too heavy at night. The grapes can't stand the humidity. They won't die, but the taste is very bad, especially sour!" Bill explained.

Hearing what he said, Qin Shiou shrugged and did not accept the explanation. Yes, he knew that the seaside was not suitable for planting vineyards. Canadian vineyards are concentrated around the Southern Lakes region – this is because large bodies of water protect the vines from the extreme cold of Canadian winter and early spring.

In addition, the lake area is different from the ocean in that both have water, but one has no wind and the other has strong wind, and the other has no tide and the other has strong humidity. They are two different environments.

In fact, Canada is not suitable for the development of vineyards. There are only 4 important wine producing areas in Canada, which is more than 10 million square kilometers, namely Ontario, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Quebec.

Among them, Ontario is the most important. It accounts for about 75% of the national production, and only Ontario and British Columbia are producing areas that meet the vqa standard of the Canadian Wine Quality Alliance.

And even these two provinces. There are very few top-grade dry reds and dry whites that can be produced, and the main production is ice wine. Of course, when Qin Shiou develops a vineyard, in addition to planting some table grapes for his own consumption, he also focuses on brewing ice wine.

Qin Shiou didn't care about the taste of the grapes produced along the coast, what he wanted was to survive, as long as he could survive. Infuse grape vines with Seagod energy, and the grapes produced will be absolutely delicious.

Bill explained. Qin Shiou didn't listen, and only asked him how to develop the vineyard and which grapes to choose.

Qin Shiou checked the information, before the 1980s. Most of the grapes grown in Canada are hardy American varieties. However, the wines produced from these grape varieties are astringent and sour. After the 1980s, European wine grape varieties gradually became the mainstream of planting.

Of course, the so-called European grape varieties chosen by Canadian vineyard owners,

There are also hybrids, such as the red grape variety Barco Noir crossed with Maréchal-Fourch, and the white grape variety Blanc de Sévail crossed with Vidal, which are cold tolerant.

White grape varieties such as Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris, and red grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. These pure raw premium European wine grapes cannot survive in Canada's bitter cold climate.

Qin Shiou didn't care about these, he chose whatever grape variety was good, and asked Bill to recommend the best grape variety to him.

Bill saw him stubborn. He could only shrug his shoulders and say 'the customer is God', then he called his friends in the grape planting industry and recommended several varieties to Qin Shiou.

Qin Shiou made a choice. The main variety he ate was North American red grapes. This is a delicious grape that originated in California, USA, and is now sold all over the world. But this kind of grape is not very cold-tolerant. Bill is pessimistic about surviving Farewell Island.

To brew grapes, Qin Shiou chose two kinds. The red grape is Cabernet Sauvignon and the white grape is Riesling, both of which are the most famous wine grapes.

Bill suggested that Qin Shiou choose Vidal, a hybrid grape, which is basically grown in ice wine wineries in Ontario.

Qin Shiou did some research and found that Vidal grapes ripen slowly and have a strong ability to resist severe cold, which is very suitable for survival in severe cold regions. In addition, it has a thick peel, is not perishable, and is easy to preserve. It can still hang on branches for three to four months after maturity to resist the severe cold in high latitude areas, so it is often used to brew ice wine.

However, the ice wine made by Vidal is too low in acidity, too sweet and greasy, and lacks the fragrance and floral aroma of wine, which Qin Shiou doesn't like very much.

In contrast, the Riesling variety is much better. The grapes also ripen slowly, but the wine it produces has a very delicate taste and aroma.

Moreover, the grape Riesling needs a long and cold climate to form its elegant flavor. During this period, the high acidity in the grapes can be maintained, and the sweetness in the ice wine can be well balanced, making the wine full-bodied and layered, with an amazing aroma. .

It’s just that Riesling is very delicate, and its production will be reduced due to sunlight, temperature and disease at every turn, so it has not been popularized in Canada.

Qin Shiou knew that there were tigers in the mountains and preferred to go to the mountains, so he chose these delicate species.

In addition, choosing Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon, in addition to their famous and good taste, there is another reason that they are suitable for growing in sandy land, which is just suitable for the fishing ground environment.

After choosing the grape variety, Qin Shiou asked Bill to help him purchase grape seedlings. He and the fishermen reclaimed the small highland and built it according to the requirements of the vineyard.

Grapes like light, and vineyards require good wind and light conditions. This small highland fully meets the standard, where the terrain is high and water is not easy to accumulate. After the drainage ditch is built, even if the rainstorm hits, the impact will not be great.

The most suitable time to plant grape seedlings is after the leaves fall in autumn or before germination in spring. Spring in Canada comes later, and this time is also considered to be the germination period, and planting seedlings by hand is not enough.

Qin Shiou divided the 150-acre highland into eight planting areas. Basically, one planting area is about 20 mu. One planting area grows edible grapes, mainly red grapes, and other black grapes and green grapes. There are more than 20 varieties in total.

The remaining seven planting areas were all used to plant and brew grapes. Shaq drove the rotary tiller to plow the entire land. The rotary tiller rotated rapidly, chopping up the sandy land that had not been used for a long time.

Occasionally, stones, shells and the like were dug up in some places, and the sea monster would drive a car equipped with a spike rake to clean them out.

At this time, we can see the importance of the pickup truck, and these farm tools can be connected to the pickup truck for use.

After plowing the land, Shaq set up the boundary of the operation area, which is to use the suppressor to smash out roads, and people and vehicles will walk on these roads when entering the plantation in the future.

The roads in the work area are flat and straight, and the roads are either parallel or vertical, cutting the entire vineyard into small squares.

The work has been carried out so far, but the preparations have been done. Qin Shiou bought enough wood from St. Johns, and then used a pile driver to plant the wood into the ground, and stretched steel bars and wires between them for future grapes to climb. .

In this way, the remaining work is to wait for the grape seedlings to arrive. (to be continued)
