Mingang River (65th Light Armored Infantry Division [Sunset] defense line) at the southern end of Gangjin (Hulunbuir) City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Prefecture

Unlike the eastern front, which destroyed Russia's fifth-tier power, the situation on the western front was not very good for the South Korean military. At the time of the early war, the 65th Light Armored Infantry Division (Sunset) remained on the defensive line despite Siberia's fierce snowstorm and temperature of minus 20 degrees Celsius. They suffered considerable damage from the continued artillery and tactical ballistic attack of the Iskandar-M missile.

Several air defense units within the division entered real-time intercepting procedures. However, they could not intercept 100 percent of the thousands of shells and Iskandar-M missiles flying simultaneously like TOT shooting.

Furthermore, the Iskandar-M missile, which flew through the spider-like anti-aircraft network, was a bomb powerful enough to significantly damage the armored unit.

Hundreds of shells exploded in the air, sending debris to the ground. In the snow-covered area, soil shot up to waist level as the steel fragments hit the ground.

Although it had gone through intensive gunfire, perhaps thanks to the hard armor suit and protective suit, only a few were killed in the armor infantry. However, there were a number of injuries that were caught up in the aftermath of the formidable explosion. In addition to medical personnel, the number of combatants rapidly decreased as combatants took measures to evacuate the injured to a safe place behind them. This meant that the firepower for interception of going down had decreased.

The 36th Vehicle Fire Infantry Division, which had been struggling to steal Lee-Min River since the beginning of the war, did not want to miss this time as the stoppage offensive decreased. They decided to begin a direct battle with the 65th Armored Infantry Division.

The light armored infantrymen were lying on the cold ground in the harsh early morning air. As the cold wind blew on them and the temperature dropped to minus 25 degrees Celsius, they were hit by various shells and cluster bomb shrapnel as they engaged in battle. It almost felt like death itself.

"Forward! At 1 o'clock! We are going down. Concentrate on the firepower."

After the war began, orders from the squadron commander and platoon leader continued to flow through the Turkion-X Wireless communication system mounted on the armored helmet.

As a result, the armored infantry focused their firepower on the order and wiped out the Russian troops.

A bullet exploded over the 101st Battalion, 3rd Battalion and 2nd Battalion of the 37th Regiment, who were lying on the frozen snowfield floor, which felt like solid iron, covered with a blanket of sprayed debris.

Fortunately, they were not caught up in the aftermath because it was far from the explosion point. However, several fragments flew toward them from the back but were either stuck on the light deck or bounced off.

As the squad members momentarily flinched and stopped shooting, Sergeant Oh Dong-gil, the squad leader, shouted with a big frown.

"Hey, hey, keep on shooting! They are going down at 1 o'clock in front of us. Don't hesitate and focus on the fire, boys!"

As the squad leader shouted through the communication network, the members of the 2nd Squad suddenly came to their senses and began shooting again after confirming that Russian armored vehicles and soldiers were crossing the Lee-Min river.

Streams of light poured down on the Russian armored vehicles and soldiers. A 30-millimeter smart grenade exploded exactly five meters above the ground, drawing a parabola.

"Oh! Grenade shooters, nice!"

Sergeant Oh Dong-gil gave a thumbs-up to Corporal Shin Myung-ho and Private Kim Kyu-chul, who were the squad's grenade shooters.

"Oh! This is a piece of cake."

Corporal Shin Myung-ho, who was firing a smart grenade again, replied with an arrogant look on his face. Seargent Oh Sung-wan, who was flying a laser beam next to him, groaned.

"Oh, you son of a b*tch! You're not humble. Let's try to be humble."

"What are you upset about, Sergeant Oh? If you talk about Corporal Shin, you're talking about humility! If you talk about humility, you're referring to Corporal Shin."

"Let's just not talk! Let's just not talk about it! Just get those Russians!"

"Hahaha, look at me aiming that armored car with your eyes wide open."

Corporal Shin Myung-ho smiled and pulled a smart ironclad out of the waistband and immediately loaded it and stuck it on his shoulder. He then aimed his target at the center of the Russian armored vehicle.

He took a deep breath and pulled the grenade trigger.

With a cool firing sound, a smart ironclad followed a parabolic path and hit the front of a Russian armored vehicle 800 meters ahead.

When the smart armor-piercing round that penetrated the front of the armored car exploded, the armored car shook once, stopped in the middle of the Lee-Min River, and thick smoke poured out through the hole.

"Yay! Caught one!"

Corporal Shin Myung-ho clenched his fists and cheered. Just then, a whistling sound was heard from the sky and the ground rose in all directions in succession. The explosive power mercilessly destroyed the 2nd squad members.

Unfortunately, several 122-millimeter rockets fired by the artillery battalion belonging to the 305th Artillery Brigade operating the BM-21 Grad MLRS landed near the 2nd Squadron.

Explosions and rumbles accompanied by shocks large enough to cause a tectonic shift continued for a while. Each time, the members of the 2nd Squadron were engulfed in the power of the explosion and were thrown in all directions.

Just like a rugby ball bouncing back and forth, the members of the 2nd Squadron were also bounced back and forth by the powerful explosions that surrounded them.

"What are the anti-aircraft b*stards doing? They're not even intercepting them?"

Sergent Park Won-young, the division commander, spewed out complaints even in a situation where it was difficult to pull himself together.

If the 2nd Squadron had been made up of ordinary infantrymen, they would all have been killed. Thankfully, due to their light armor protective suits, their lives were spared. They were thrown to the ground, and those who were unlucky sustained a fracture or severe bruising.

Suddenly, the explosions could no longer be heard and the surrounding area became quiet. In various places, around the 2nd Squadron, there were puddles large enough for a person to enter. These puddles were where the rockets had hit.

"Ugh!"

"Ah! I can't hear a f*cking sound! Did it blow my eardrums?"

"Ah! My legs!"

The members of the 2nd Squadron who were mercilessly thrown around were lying on the ground groaning and struggling.

Sergeant Oh Dong-gil, the squad leader who had the light armor helmet on, checked the surrounding area through the visor. He shouted at the squad members that he could see through the thick smoke from the gunpowder.

He unconsciously began to speak loudly because he could not even hear what he was saying through the communicator.

"Everyone, get back to your senses! Is anyone injured? Sergeant Park! Check them out!"

"Yes! All right."

Sergeant Park Won-young, who had collapsed into a crouched position after being thrown about ten meters from where he was, looked around to check on the squad members. Then he crawled towards the nearest squad member.

"Are you okay?"

The first member he looked at was Sergeant Oh Seong-wan.

"Can't I just take a little break like this, Sergeant Park?"

"Hey! Are you hurt?"

"I think I'm fine but I think I'm mentally traumatized."

"Sh*t! Get some rest and move!"

"Yes."

Sergeant Park Won-young, who lightly tapped Sergeant Oh's back, crawled to the other squad member next to him.

On his hands and knees, Sergeant Park Won-young went around checking on all the squad members and reported it through the Turkion-X Wireless communication system.

"Everyone is fine except for Hyun-cheol."

"Where did Hyun-cheol get hurt?"

"It looks like a fractured rib. Using the self-diagnosis function, it shows that two ribs are broken."

"Ah! Damn! Okay, wait for a minute!"

After a while, squad leader, Sergeant Oh Dong-gil approached Private Sang Hyun-cheol and saw the screen of the control X-K02 terminal mounted on his arm and clicked his tongue.

"I think that we should transfer him."

On the screen of the X-K02 terminal, it was confirmed through self-diagnosis that two of Private Sang Hyun-cheol's right ribs were fractured.

"You mean now?"

"You can't help it, right? What if we leave it like this and it gets worse? Let's get Myeong-ho and Gyu-cheol to take Hyun-cheol to the armored car! From there, get them to transfer him to the battalion infirmary or the brigade infirmary!"

"Yes, all right."

At the direction of Sergeant Oh Dong-gil, Corporal Park Myung-ho and Private Kim Kyu-cheol supported Private Sang Hyeon-cheol on both sides and helped him to the rear of the armored car. Private Sang Hyeon-cheol could not even move from the intense pain.

"The rest will engage again."

Sergeant Oh Dong-gil left Private Sang Hyun-cheol who was on his way out, and got back on the ground, into position, and entered the battle.

As the entire squad escaped the threat of destruction and continued fighting, the company commander ordered a retreat.

This was because the 65th Gyeonggap Infantry Division (Sunset) was ordered to retreat from the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Currently, more than 50 percent of the 36th Motorized Infantry Division successfully crossed the border, so heavy damage was expected to be caused by the light armored infantry alone.

Accordingly, the Joint Chiefs of Staff ordered the 65th Gyeonggap Infantry Division to quickly retreat to Gangjin (Hulunbeir) and prepare for the urban battle.

Gangjin (Hulunbeir) was a city just above the heading path at the northern end of the Lee-Min River. If the unit was heading to the east end without occupying Gangjin (Hulunbeir), the supply road could be blocked or the rear of the unit could be exposed.

For this reason, the 36th Vehicle Fire Infantry Division was able to carry out the next operation only when it had unconditionally occupied Gangjin (Hulunbeir).

The light armored infantry class of the 65th Light Armored Infantry Division was very advantageous in street fighting. It was the judgment of the Joint Chiefs of Staff that, if a guerrilla-style battle was waged in a complex city center with various buildings as cover, it could not only defend the city of Hulunbeir but also completely destroy the unit that was trying to evade it.

The 3rd Squadron, including the 2nd Squadron, which was ordered to retreat by the company commander, began running as an armored personnel carrier was waiting in the rear for them.

Lee-Min River (5th Armored Division [Key] defense line) 123 kilometers south of Gangjin (Hulunbeir) City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Prefecture

After the 65th Light Armored Infantry Division (sunset) was ordered to retreat, the 5th Armored Division (Key), which was defending at the southern end of the Mingang River, was also ordered to do the same. Despite the downpouring of missiles and various shells, the 5th Armored Division (Key), which was responsible for defending the defense line for two hours, was also ordered to retreat by the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The reason why the 5th Armored Division (Key) was ordered to retreat was quite different from that of the 65th Light Armored Infantry Division (sunset).

The Joint Chiefs of Staff had ordered the retreat because the Independence Corps, a unit directly under the control of the 29th Army, had appeared in the area around the Mongolian border, 58 kilometers southwest of the 5th Armored Division (Key).

The 30th Mechanized Infantry Division (Pilseung), which was moving north along the border, made an emergency detour and intercepted the movement, but it was not possible to block all the independence corps which consisted of three divisions. The independence corps carried out an impressive artillery attack at an artillery unit, which had been radiating from the rear, as they expected the 30th Mechanized Infantry Division (Pilseung) to block their maneuver. Thousands of shells were poured on the 30th Mechanized Infantry Division, which disrupted the formation of the maneuver. In addition, the 55th Motorized Infantry Division and the 56th Motorized Infantry Division attempted to attack the side of the 5th Armored Division (Key) by bypassing the 30th Mechanized Infantry Division (Pilseung).

If the two motorized infantry divisions succeeded in the detour and attacked the flanks of the 5th Armored Division (Key), the defense line would collapse and the 5th Armored Division (Key) would receive a heavy blow.

For that reason, the Joint Chiefs of Staff urgently retreated the 5th Armored Division (Key) to the southeastern end and quickly joined the 30th Mechanized Infantry Division (Pilseung) to defeat the 27th Armored Division.

It was an ingenious deceptive operation to quickly avoid making any mistakes and then dealing with the enemy with dispersed power.

In addition, the Joint Chiefs of Staff had ordered the air force and aerospace forces to launch a large-scale strategic bomber sortie as a retaliatory measure against the offensive attack of the Russian strategic missile force.

At that time, there were eight CFS/A-31SP Three-toed Crow space fighter jets and C-PSBs (plasma cluster bombs) per unit that were sortied by the 2nd Space Fighter Wing from Suncheon Base in Pyongan-do 30 minutes earlier in the thermosphere layer at 210 kilometers south of Gangjin (Hulunbeir). Twelve CB-30P Blue Dragon strategic bombers armed with 80 rounds and 16 CF-21P Zusak fighter jets serving as escorts were flying quietly and secretly at an altitude of 25 kilometers.
